August 24, 2021
This weekend Ignition Human Performance Brand Champion, Esmee Hawkey was at the legendary Nürburgring, home of the F1 German and European Grand Prix, which over the years has seen many historic moments for motorsport and this time was the host of the fourth round (races seven and eight) of the DTM Championship in the ROKiT Sponsored T3 Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan GT3.
Below are Esmee's thoughts and comments on her weekend as well as highlights from both races:
NÜRBURGRING - HIGHLIGHTS & FACTS
Fresh from her best weekend of the season at Zolder, Esmee Hawkey travelled to the famous Nürburgring circuit for the fourth round of the season
Racing at the Nürburgring for the very first time, Esmee lined up P21 on the grid for the opening race of the weekend
The 23-year-old steered clear of the first-lap drama and impressed with her race pace once again to finish P17
Returning on Sunday, Esmee gained her first experience of DTM in wet weather conditions and qualified P23 on the grid
She kept calm and collected in a race of attrition - where nine cars retired - to impress with her race pace again as she recorded one of the six fastest laps of the race
She took the chequered flag in P11, marking her best finish of the season to date
Esmee’s focus now turns to the next round of the championship at the Red Bull Ring, on 3-5 September
ESMEE'S RACE REVIEW
“I’ve really enjoyed my first time racing here at the Nürburgring. It’s been another positive weekend and I’m really happy with my performance, particularly in the races. We’re pushing ever closer to the points and I can feel myself improving every weekend. We had a variety of conditions to deal with this weekend and that experience will really help me as we move forwards. I can’t wait to get back out there in Austria in a couple of weeks!”
